We’re pleased to introduce Shyanne Dougherty, Registered Counselling Therapist – Candidate, to Five Star Wellbeing.

Shyanne brings a warm, curious, collaborative, and down-to-earth approach to therapy. She enjoys supporting youth, young adults, parents, and neurodivergent individuals, as well as those navigating anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship challenges, life transitions, and self-discovery. Her goal is to create a space where clients feel accepted, understood, and empowered to move forward with greater self-compassion. Shyannes schedule is now open for booking appointments.

As a registered Counselling Therapist - Candidate (RCT-C), I strive to create a warm, compassionate and collaborative space where clients feel supported in exploring their experiences, emotions, relationships and patterns.

I work with individuals, youth and couples navigating concerns such as anxiety, stress, overwhelm, emotional regulation challenges, self- esteem, social challenges, neurodivergence, life transitions, and complicated family or relationship dynamics. In my work with couples, I focus on communication, conflict resolution, emotional understanding and connection.

My approach emphasizes the importance of understanding the patterns that keep showing up in a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours within the broader context of their unique individual experience. In therapy, we will work together to build a greater understanding of your thoughts, feelings, needs, and relationships, while also developing practical tools for coping, communicating, and moving forward with greater self-compassion and empowerment. To do this, I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills, mindfulness, and Emotionally Focused approaches.

My academic background includes studies in biology, psychology, philosophy, and counselling psychology, which has shaped my holistic view of mental wellness and the human experience. I consider the biological, psychological, relational, and personal aspects of each person’s experience, including what matters to them, what gives their life meaning, and what helps them feel more connected and grounded.

I also have a background in supporting children, adolescents, and families across behavioural intervention, youth care, education and mentorship settings. This has included supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families, as well as adolescents experiencing emotion regulation challenges, stress, pressure, social difficulties, self-esteem concerns, and complex family dynamics.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I am a dog mom to two dogs and enjoy spending time outdoors, especially hiking or snorkelling at the beach, and travelling to new places. I was born and raised in Alberta, moved to the Annapolis Valley in 2017, and spent a couple of years in Newfoundland and have since returned to settle in the Valley.
